Witney’s Lights would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to Lynn Rosenthal on her appointment to the White House as an Advisor on Violence Against Women. Lynn Rosenthal has the distinct pleasure of serving in a newly created position at the White House, dedicated specifically to advising the President and Vice President on domestic violence and sexual assault issues. In this new position, Ms. Rosenthal will be a liaison to the domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy community; coordinate with the Department of Justice’ s Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) on implementation of Violence Against Women Act programs; coordinate with the Department of Health and Human Services on implementation of Family Violence Prevention Act services (including the National Domestic Violence Hotline); coordinate with the State Department and USAID on global domestic violence initiatives; and drive the development new initiatives and policy aimed at combating domestic violence and sexual assault with advocacy groups and members of Congress. In addition, we look forward to Ms. Rosenthal actively supporting and encouraging the participation of grassroots organizations such as Witney’s Lights and others in her plans to eradicate violence against women.
A special thanks to Vice President Biden , White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett and White House Advisor Lynn Rosenthal for placing Violence Against Women at the top of the White House Agenda as well as for the invitation to participate in a roundtable discussion to prioritize the immediate needs to combat domestic violence and sexual assualt. A healthy dialog occurred between The Vice President, Ms. Jarrett and Ms. Rosenthal as well as with other national violence against women organizations, advocates, White House officials and yours truly.
